The LGBTQ community in the U.S. just experienced its deadliest year in addition to countless — and often unreported — non-fatal sexual violence, stalking, bullying, physical assault and verbal harassment.

This breaks my heart. Sometimes I am so ashamed of this country. The cruelty is reprehensible. In Oregon, we had a number of anti-LGBTQ laws and, I believe, the last one was repealed as of May 2017. Yay! And we have the first openly bisexual governor in United States history. That doesn’t mean that we don’t have our haters and jerks, but we’re making progress.

Ugh. I know. My daughter’s generation is much more accepting of differences (she’s in her early 30’s). Eventually the old bigots will die off. Terrible to say, but…
