Koran set on fire outside mosque
UNITED STATES: Police are investigating two apparent Islamophobic hate crimes in California over the weekend.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department said a deputy was alerted on Saturday afternoon to a burning Koran filled with bacon attached to a fence at the city’s Masjid Annur Islamic Centre.
And the Sacramento Bee reported that a driver threw pages torn from the Koran into the Davis Islamic Centre during evening prayers on Friday.

Trump’s new nominee to head the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division is so outrageously wrong for the job that it’s like Trump is specifically saying “Screw you” to women.
Lawyer Eric Dreiband made a name for himself fighting to deny women birth control. He has spent his career defending corporations sued by women and minority populations.
This is not someone we can have in charge of our civil rights protections.

The Civil Rights Division of the Justice Department is the office in charge of enforcing America’s laws against discrimination. This is the office that has held the police department accountable in Ferguson, has worked to enforce the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Prevention Act, and who ensures voting rights for us all.1,2 President Obama’s head of the division was a prominent NAACP attorney.3
Dreiband, on the other hand, has risen to prominence by tearing down vulnerable populations. In his career, he has:4,5
Led a case against the U.S. government to overturn the requirement that employer insurance cover birth control.
Represented Abercrombie & Fitch when it refused to hire a Muslim woman because she wore a head scarf.
Testified before the Senate against the Fair Pay Restoration Act that would require equal pay for women.
Defended HB2–the discriminatory transgender bathroom bill–for the state of North Carolina.
Dreiband will work under Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who has already made it clear that he couldn’t care less about civil rights, so we’re going to have to stand up to his woman-hating agenda. Will you chip in $5 to UltraViolet?
