Thousands of people have taken to the streets in London to demand justice for victims of the Grenfell Tower fire. Report by Sarah Duffy.
Two women feared dead in Grenfell Tower tragedy were threatened with legal action – after raising alarm about fire safety. Mariem Elgwahry and Nadia Choucair were branded ‘troublemakers’ because they campaigned to make their homes safer: here.
Wealthy people living just yards from Grenfell Tower ‘were handed a £100 tax rebate because of council savings’. A letter accused Kensington and Chelsea council chiefs of “giving to the rich, while taking from the poor”: here.
Tower block fire safety checks have been cut by a quarter since the Tories came to power. The Sunday People has learned that the number of fire safety audits dropped from 84,575 in 2010-11 to 63,201 in 2015-16, a 25 per cent dip: here.
Revealed: the tower block fire warnings that ministers ignored. Fire chief tells of repeated rebuffs by ministers as Theresa May admits Grenfell victims were let down: here.
Grenfell Tower victims “badly let down” by Government that ignored fire threat and failed to make flats fire safe. The Grenfell Tower fire is not the first blaze in a high rise block to claim lives, and action needs to be taken now to make safety improvements: here.
