But commercial stations refuse to play anti-Tory hit single
A SONG condemning Theresa May as a “liar” hit number 10 in the official online charts over the weekend — but commercial stations are refusing to play it.
Capital FM and Heart both opted not to play the track, performed by Captain Ska, despite the fact its sales propelled it into the top 10.
During the chart show, hosts Marvin Humes and Kat Shoob announced the song and its chart position but instead of playing it went straight to number nine.
The track Liar Liar features samples from speeches and news interviews given by the Prime Minister followed by a chorus of: “She’s a Liar, Liar… you can’t trust her, no no no no.”
It attacks the Conservative Party over failings including crises in the NHS and education, and levels of poverty.
Another lyric runs: “When there’s nurses going hungry and schools in decline/I don’t recognise this broken country of mine.”
The song has been available for download since last Friday.
In response to the radio ban Jake Painter from Captain Ska said: “This can only be seen as an attempt by the media owners to undermine public opinion.
“Thousands of people have downloaded this track and we demand that it is aired as any other song would be.
“We’ve written Liar Liar GE2017 for this general election because we want to do all we can to expose the horrific effects Tory policy has had on ordinary people.
“Theresa May lies her way through interview after interview without addressing the real issues. We’re sick of her and her party of millionaires privatising and cutting our public services while the rest of the country faces deteriorating living standards and poverty.
“The money is there to improve the lives of the majority but it’s in the hands of the wrong people.”
The track, which the band says has since soared to number two in the charts, is available to buy online with all money from sales up to June 8 being shared between foodbanks around the country and the People’s Assembly Against Austerity.
In another example of election censorship the NHS Singers, who pen songs against health cuts, were pulled off stage at Farnham festival in Surrey after singing their track Stand Up For The NHS.
The song’s chorus goes: “It’s not safe, it’s not fair, but they just don’t care, we did not sign up for this.”
The group also attacked Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt, whose South West Surrey constituency covers Farnham.
But as the group were about to launch into their second track, the host told them “we’re moving on, sorry guys” to boos from the crowd.
NHS singer and junior doctor Rishi Dhir claimed the “stage-managed censorship” and “media blackout” was because local Conservative councillor and mayor Mike Hodge did not like political songs.
‘did not like political songs’ … except, very probably, pro-Conservative songs. But are all seemingly pro-Conservative songs really pro-Conservative songs?

Corbyn comes out on top as May is jeered, laughed at and heckled!
THE separate questioning by SKY’s Faisal Islam, Jeremy Paxman and a small audience, of Labour leader Corbyn and PM May showed just how disorientated the Tories and their bourgeois backers have become.
Their tactic, originally hailed as a master stroke, of calling a snap election deemed to be certain of securing a huge majority and a personal dictatorship for PM May so that she could dictate her terms to the EU and, more importantly, to the working class at home, has collapsed around their ears, and it showed at Monday night’s alternative to a proper leadership debate.
The disorientation was so extreme that the once feared Paxman (known as ‘the interrogator’) instead of going for Corbyn as the potential leader of a government that – as the Daily Telegraph would have it will destroy Britain in a sea of chaos – asked him just why the Manifesto did not contain Corbyn’s favourite policies – the nationalisation of the banks, the scrapping of Trident, and the ending of the monarchy.
This allowed Corbyn to explain to Paxman that since he, Corbyn, was a democrat, the election was being fought on the policies that the Labour Party had decided on, and not the favourite policies of the leader.
Paxman had no answer to this approach, and was outfought and out-manoeuvred by Corbyn on all of the issues that the ruling class wanted to ram down Corbyn’s throat – his principled position on advocating a dialogue and a political settlement with the IRA, his opposition to the bloody Falklands war and his general lack of enthusiasm for destroying the planet by initiating a nuclear strike – a sentiment that the vast majority of the UK population shares!
Corbyn came out of this substitute for a leadership debate stronger. May emerged out of it weaker having been subjected to the unheard of, as far as an ‘Iron Lady’ is concerned, heckling, jeering and mocking laughter! She behaved as an Iron Lady who has lost her way and, even after tearing up her uncosted Manifesto pledges, expected the audience to do their patriotic duty and support her come what may.
May saw nothing wrong with an uncosted Manifesto, now ripped up over the ‘dementia tax’, with continuing to cut local police numbers, and the continuing cutting and privatisation of the NHS, plus the cutting of schools and social care budgets. She acted, once again, as if it was the duty of the nation to support her, and that she was about to embark on some version of Charles 1’s ‘rule by divine right’.
With just over a week to go to the election the Tories and the bosses will now be organising the most vicious witchhunt of Corbyn possible, to try to avoid the situation where what May called the ‘quiet revolution’ on June 23 2016 – when the UK voted to leave the EU – with another revolution, not so quiet this time, on June 8th if she and her government are defeated and removed.
Since she initiated the election and demanded that the electorate return her with a massive majority, if she wins the election but fails to increase her majority in the way that she demands of the masses, the ranks of Tory MPs will rise up and remove her, creating the situation where there could be another even more crisis-ridden election.
We urge all workers and the middle class to turn out, in millions, in greater numbers than the referendum, to put the Tories out and return a Labour government.

WE NEED a media that works for the many, not the few, People’s Assembly activists heard at the Take Back Manchester festival yesterday.
Morning Star reporter Steve Sweeney told the meeting that journalists are meant to speak truth to power and hold the billionaires and oligarchs to account.
“But it is very difficult to do that when the majority of the media is owned by a narrow clique that represents its own class interests,” he said.
“Many of the major newspapers are owned by billionaire tax exiles who spend their time attacking so-called benefit cheats and went on the offensive against Jeremy Corbyn because he threatens their way of life,” he continued.
Mr Sweeney said the Star is the voice of the progressive left and the labour movement because it is not in the hands of billionaires but by a co-operative owned by its readers and trade unions.
Justin Schlosberg of the Media Reform Coalition told the meeting that the BBC had followed a “hard-right” agenda in its coverage of Mr Corbyn’s leadership of the Labour Party and the growing movement against austerity policies imposed by the government.
“It’s astonishing how things have changed over the last two months,” he said. “Murdoch is not getting it his own way anymore.”
And Tom Mills explained that his research for his book The BBC: Myth of a Public Service had exposed how the public broadcaster has increasingly followed the line of the Tory government on issues such as war. He said the corporation has acted as “a mouthpiece for the Ministry of Defence.”
Actor Julie Hesmondhalgh told the meeting that social class played a major role in the media, explaining that a shocking 67 per cent of Bafta winners were educated at fee-paying schools and just 7 per cent of Oscar winners attended state schools.
Salford Star editor Stephen Kingston said his publication was a “do-it-yourself punk” newspaper that relied on working-class people for support.
He said local journalism was important in holding councils and politicians to account at a time when the staff and resources of the local press and broadcasting were being shrunk.
Mr Sweeney concluded by arguing that the issue of media ownership would be resolved by building a new society without the bosses and billionaires. He also urged people to build local branches of the People’s Assembly in their areas.
“It was the People’s Assembly that shifted the narrative on austerity and created the anti-Establishment mood that propelled Jeremy Corbyn to the Labour leadership, but the movement needs strengthening to protect him,” he added.
