Murdoch’s O’Reilly sacked for sexual harassment

This 19 April 2017 video from the USA says about itself:

FOX News Bill O’Reilly FIRED For Sexually Harassing Co-Workers.

BILL O’REILLY IS OUT The Fox star has been let go from the network following a mass exodus of advertisers over sexual harassment allegations. Executives at Fox reportedly fear more will come out in the coming months. O’Reilly’s name has already been scrubbed from “The Factor,” a show he hosted to much acclaim for 20 years, and Tucker Carlson is taking over his time slot. This is what Twitter thinks O’Reilly will do next. Here’s how the rise of President Donald Trump led to O’Reilly’s fall. And take a look at the timeline of the “nine and a half months that shook Fox News.” [HuffPost]

BILL O’REILLY TO RECEIVE $25 MILLION PAYOUT FROM FOX As part of his settlement to leave the network. Here’s why his fall from grace was particularly steep and what it means for the culture at Fox. And yes, O’Reilly did once write a fictional novel about a fired newsman’s murderous revenge. 1. You just took down one of the biggest names in American media and politics. Thanks to you, Bill O’Reilly won’t be returning to Fox News.

The announcement came Wednesday morning, less than a day after survivors of sexual assault, UltraViolet members, and our friends at Color of Change and others took to Fox News offices to demand this sexual predator be taken off prime time TV.

This was neither quick nor easy to do. The O’Reilly Factor has dominated cable news for years, raking in the biggest audience of any network each night. But after 140,000 UltraViolet members joined powerful allies like Color of Change and Media Matters for America, toxic racist and sexual predator O’Reilly will no longer abuse women in the newsroom or be in front of four million viewers every night.

Below are the things UltraViolet members did to make this happen. You can read more and share with your friends by clicking here.

    https://act.weareultraviolet.org/sign/oreilly_victory/?t=1&akid=4447.1176117.Asblt5

Almost 80,000 UltraViolet members signed onto a petition calling on 21st Century Fox to fire Fox News CEO Bill Shine and Fox News host Bill O’Reilly over their role in taking part in and covering up abuse at Fox News.

More than 60,000 UltraViolet members signed onto a petition calling on advertisers on the O’Reilly Factor and Fox News to cut ties with the network over the lack of accountability for sex crimes.

Over 500 sexual assault survivors and UltraViolet members penned a letter to 21st Century Fox executives, demanding O’Reilly be fired.

Dozens of UltraViolet, Color of Change, and NOW NYC members as well as NYC Public Advocate Letitia James rallied with sexual assault survivors who powerfully told their stories and demanded Fox fire O’Reilly. News reports credit this protest as one of the key reasons Fox finally decided to fire O’Reilly.

Along with the protest, UltraViolet flew a plane around Manhattan with a banner reading “FOX: #DROPOREILLY, THE SEXUAL PREDATOR.”

UltraViolet released a new online ad targeting members of the board of 21st Century Fox ahead of their board meeting Thursday to decide the fate of Bill O’Reilly. The video documents stories of women sexually harassed by Bill O’Reilly.

UltraViolet put up movie-sized posters around Fox headquarters and online ads targeted to Fox News employees asking, “Have you also been sexually harassed by Bill?”

Since August of last year, thousands of UltraViolet members have flooded Fox offices with phone calls.

This once again shows that taking action together works–even taking down seemingly unbeatable household names like Bill O’Reilly.

Thank you for all you do.

  2. Oh, happy day. “Belligerent Bill” O’Reilly is off the air.

For twenty years now, Bill O’Reilly has been the Ace of Disgrace, Avatar of the Bizarre, Liar-in-Chief for Faux News. And now he’s gone.

I had been in office for less than a year when O’Rudely sent his creepy “Producer,” Griff “Grifter” Jenkins, over to my office to try to ambush me. Our staff politely invited Jenkins and his camera crew to make an appointment, but Jerkins thought that it would be so-much-more-fun to wait out in the hallway and then fling silly questions at me. Only one problem: I tend to work late, which upset Jerkins to no end. So it was pretty late at night when I left my office, at which point Jerkins conducted an “interview” that comprised him asking idiotic questions, me inviting him repeatedly to make an appointment (the rules apply to Fox like everyone else, I gently reminded him), and us watching each other intently as the elevator door closed. (Alas, he couldn’t squeeze his camera crew into the elevator.)

Apparently, film of an elevator door closing is what passes for spectacular footage at Fox News, so Bill O’Really? put it on the air. The Author of Irresponsible Things claimed that I had said “irresponsible things,” some kind of “outrage,” and that I was “out of control.” And then O’Liely said, with no hint of irony, “I’m not going to call the guy a name, because that gets down to his level.”

But O’Slyly just couldn’t let it go at that. He added this Big Whopper, “with no due respect”:

“I’m happy you kept him there [in his office] ‘til 7:30, because he usually goes home at 3:30 or 4:00.”

Actually, when I was in DC, I “usually” went home at 10:30 or 11 pm. In fact, when I left my office, I often had to walk all the way to the other side of the Capitol Complex just to get out, because all the other doors close by then. And if you strolled by the east side of the Cannon House Office Building after 10 pm, there was a good chance that you would see only one office lit – mine.

Sorry, but working late is the only way that I know to pass more than 100+ pieces of legislation in four years. I wish that there were some other way, but I don’t know of any.

I noticed that a smile played over Oa’Fishly’s fish lips when he told that lie about when I leave the office. “That’s a very plausible lie,” he was thinking, with some personal pride.

I was hardly the only one to enjoy this personal touch. A Huffington Post writer wrote that she also was the target of the O’Bile-y ambuscade.

Honestly, when Sen. Al Franken wrote a book calling a right-wing “news” personality a “Big Fat Idiot,” it’s hard for me to believe that he was talking about someone else.

Goodbye, Bill O’Reilly. Goodbye to your unique brand of Jerk Journalism.

    Courage,

    Alan Grayson

  3. Last week, we took down serial sexual predator Bill O’Reilly. That’s huge–but we’re not done yet.1

Fox News co-President, Bill Shine, was a key player in covering up years of abuse by O’Reilly and former CEO Roger Ailes.2

We need to keep the pressure on Fox until they do a full public investigation and fire all of the accomplices like Bill Shine. It wasn’t until the public started speaking out that Fox pushed out Ailes and O’Reilly. If we raise an outcry while O’Reilly’s firing is still hot in the news, we can also get rid of Shine. Will you add your name?

Tell 21st Century Fox: Clean up the disgusting culture of sexual abuse at Fox News and fire Bill Shine.
    Sign the petition

People power works–it seemed impossible, but we helped take one of the most powerful men in American media off the air and put other sexual predators on notice.

We can use this momentum and make sure Fox News fixes its toxic culture of harassment for good. Firing Ailes and O’Reilly are two major steps, but sexual harassment will continue with Shine still there. Fox should launch a full public investigation to get rid of Shine any other executives that enable serial sexual harassers.

Will you add your name to make sure Fox News makes its workplace safe for women?

    Thanks,

  8. Former Fox News host and serial sexual predator Bill O’Reilly is making a comeback thanks to Sean Hannity.

Fox just announced that O’Reilly–who was kicked off the air in part thanks to UltraViolet members–will appear on the show Hannity TONIGHT.1 O’Reilly is unapologetic–he continues to blame the many women he harassed for his firing–so he is just as dangerous as when he was fired.
If Hannity and Fox News don’t face major backlash for bringing a sexual predator back for one night, they’ll think people have stopped paying attention and they can get away with giving O’Reilly and other predators a platform again.

Dozens of advertisers–including ones that rely heavily on women like Jenny Craig and Wayfair–that pulled their ads from Bill O’Reilly’s show continue to advertise on Hannity.2 Now that Hannity is helping O’Reilly’s comeback, we can put the same pressure on these advertisers to not only drop Hannity, but Fox News entirely. Will you add your name to demand companies stop supporting Hannity and all Fox News shows?

Tell Jenny Craig, Advil, Wayfair, and other Hannity advertisers: “Sean Hannity is working to normalize Bill O’Reilly, the sexual predator you didn’t want to be associated with, by bringing him back on the air. Drop all Fox News shows now.”
    Sign the petition

O’Reilly was kicked off the air a few months ago thanks in part to the work of Color of Change, Media Matter for America, and UltraViolet members like you. After it came to light that Fox had paid off five women who accused O’Reilly of sexual harassment to keep him on the air, we worked together to force advertisers to pull out of the show, a major pressure point on the company.3 Now, we can do it again–not just to push Hannity out, but to pressure advertisers to drop Fox News altogether for profiting off of decades of sexist abuse on and off air.

Dozens of women have now come forward at the network to report harassment, assault, and rape.4 The problem goes way beyond one man and it is time that advertisers recognize that supporting any Fox News show means supporting rape culture.

Will you sign now to call on advertisers to drop Fox News?

    Thanks for speaking out!
