Hyundai Pulls Upcoming Ads From ‘O’Reilly Factor’ Amid ‘Disturbing’ Allegations
The decision comes after a bombshell New York Times investigation into sexual harassment claims made against Fox News host Bill O’Reilly.
Hyundai announced on Monday that it will pull advertising spots slated to air during “The O’Reilly Factor” amid sexual harassment claims leveled at the Fox News host.
The decision came after Mercedes-Benz withdrew its advertising spots following a New York Times investigation that reported Bill O’Reilly and Fox News had paid about $13 million in settlements to address sexual harassment and other behavioral complaints brought forth by five women who previously worked with the host.
New York Times reporter Emily Steel, who co-bylined the bombshell report, tweeted Hyundai’s statement late Monday night. The automaker said it had upcoming spots planned for “The O’Reilly Factor,” but would reallocate them after learning about the “recent and disturbing allegations.”
Mercedes-Benz shared a similar sentiment on Monday.
“The allegations are disturbing and, given the importance of women in every aspect of our business, we don’t feel this is a good environment in which to advertise our products right now,” Mercedes-Benz spokeswoman Donna Boland said.
In a statement to The New York Times, O’Reilly denied the harassment allegations, adding that his role at the network made him a target. …
The typically pugnacious host, who has previously addressed a sexual harassment lawsuit filed against him, did not say a word about the latest revelations during Monday night’s broadcast.
O’Reilly’s show is considered the most valuable to the news network, raking in millions of viewers each night during a coveted primetime spot. Fox News reportedly extended his contract, which was set to expire this year.

News broke this weekend that hate-spouting Fox News has been paying millions over the years to silence at least five women who were sexually harassed by the network’s top anchor, Bill O’Reilly.1
Fox News is refusing to take action, so big name companies like Mercedes, Hyundai, and BMW pulled all their ads from his show, The O’Reilly Factor. And now, other companies that advertise on The O’Reilly Factor like Lexus, Jenny Craig, and celebrity chef Rachael Ray are under lot of scrutiny for supporting a known sexual harasser with their advertising dollars.2
Linda, this may be what finally takes down O’Reilly, who has been abusing women and facing zero consequences for years. If we speak out right now, while both media and the public are paying attention, we can pressure companies to pull their ads and make this hurt for O’Reilly and Fox News. Will you add your name?

This is not the first time Fox News is coming under fire for sexual harassment. Last year, multiple women came forward about sexual harassment by Roger Ailes, former Fox News CEO of 20 years.4 When UltraViolet members found out, 48,000 of us took action and helped push Ailes out of the company.
But the problem continues, in part, because one of the executives who enabled Ailes’ abuse, Bill Shine, is now CEO of the company. Plus, Fox is continuing to protect O’Reilly because he hosts its highest grossing show.5
This time we can put even more pressure on Fox to let go of O’Reilly by getting large companies to pull their ads and hurt Fox’s bottom line. Companies have already pulled out because they do not want their brand to be associated with sexual harassment. If thousands speak out while this news is in the spotlight, the rest of The O’Reilly Factor’s advertisers will pull out–sending a message to millions: sexual harassment will not be tolerated.

Fox News is unraveling. First, decades-long CEO Roger Ailes was ousted for sexual harassment. Now, host Bill O’Reilly is named in another lawsuit–and by fellow host Andrea Tantaros.2
The details of the lawsuit are nauseating. O’Reilly tried to lure Tantaros into his home and kept asking her to show him her “wild side.”
There’s more: Tantaros revealed that the brand new CEO, Bill Shine, knew that O’Reilly and Ailes harassed her but told her to shut up about it.
Fox News is once again dealing with a public relations nightmare. We can push them to get rid of O’Reilly and Shine–like we pushed them to fire Ailes–if enough of us speak out.3 Will you add your name?

Tantaros points out that Ailes did not act alone. She named several male Fox News contributors in addition to O’Reilly and Ailes and claimed executives helped cover the abuse up. Every top Fox News executive she came forward to ignored her complaints–and took her off the air.4
When former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes was slapped with a lawsuit, 50,000 UltraViolet members spoke out and successfully forced Fox to get rid of him. Now, with another lawsuit naming Bill O’Reilly, who hosts the most popular show on Fox News, and new CEO Bill Shine, who was very carefully chosen to replace Ailes following the scandal, Fox is once again dragged into the spotlight for endangering women in the workplace.
A few weeks back, UltraViolet members forced Ailes out of Fox News when it came to light he has harassed countless women while he was CEO. Getting rid of Ailes was a crucial step in stopping sexist abuse at Fox. But sexual harassment at Fox News won’t stop until everyone who participated and covered it up is held accountable–and we can make sure of that if we all speak out again.

Bill O’Reilly needs to go. News recently broke that Fox News and its parent company Twenty-First Century Fox Inc. have paid millions of dollars to silence women who made allegations of sexual harassment against Fox’s top anchor.1
Fox News has a misogyny problem. Last summer, it was CEO Roger Ailes, who allegedly used his power to demean, objectify, and harass women and create a toxic culture of sexism at Fox News. 21st Century Fox fired him, but gave him $40 million as part of his exit package. Now it’s O’Reilly, the network’s most-reliable racist and misogynist as well as its top money maker, who is under the spotlight.
While Fox fails to act, massive grassroots outrage has forced more than 50 advertisers to abandon “The O’Reilly Factor.”2 Pressure from the public, including more than tens of thousands of CREDO members, helped push Ailes out last year. We need to make our voices heard just as clearly now.

After the Ailes scandal, 21st Century Fox executives claimed a commitment to “maintaining a work environment based on trust and respect.”3 But their actions speak louder than their words. Since Ailes’ departure, the company settled with two women who claimed they were harassed by O’Reilly and learned that O’Reilly had settled with a third.4 The U.S. Attorney’s office is currently investigating whether Fox hid settlement payouts from investors by paying them as salaries.5 These are not the actions of a company trying to rid itself of a toxic culture of misogyny and sexism.
The toxic culture is not just behind-the-scenes at Fox. Media Matters and Bloomberg have documented countless instances of on-air sexism and misogyny on a range of Fox News’ programs:6,7
Women are treated as sexual objects and subjected to constant comments about their appearance.
Hosts and guests use inappropriate and demeaning language to refer to women.
Hosts and guests put forth messages that reinforce sexist and misogynistic ideas about husbands’ dominance and control over their wives, the inappropriateness of women’s equality in the workplace and women being responsible for sexual assault or harassment.
The massive exodus of advertisers is finally putting a dent in O’Reilly’s ability to pull down massive profits for Fox. 21st Century Fox executives have spent years covering for O’Reilly’s reported pattern of sexual harassment and brushing off concerns about his racism, xenophobia and misogyny.8 They will continue to do that unless we keep the pressure on now. That’s why we’re joining our friends at UltraViolet to demand O’Reilly’s bosses take him off the air for good.
