Great egret’s unusual colours

This video was recorded on 19 November 2016 in the Biesbosch national park in the Netherlands.

It shows a great egret with unusual colours. Usually, the bill of this species is yellow; in this individual, it is black. Usually, the legs of this species are black; in this individual, they are red.

Great egrets sometimes have these colours in mating season in spring. However, it is November, not spring. Probably, the hormones of this bird are disturbed.
