Translated from Dutch NOS TV:
Hitler salute for Trump, civil rights groups want action
Today, 18:48
“Hail Trump, hail our people, hail victory.”
‘Hail victory’ is the literal English translation of the German nazi salute words ‘Sieg heil’.
This shouted the leader of the American alt-right nationalist movement in Washington, according to a video by The Atlantic. Civil rights groups put increasing pressure on Donald Trump to dissociate himself from this movement, led by Richard Spencer.
The nationalist groups, including neo-Nazis and anti-Semites in their ranks, held a meeting this weekend. The US Holocaust Memorial Museum then sounded the alarm about the “hate speech” which this weekend happened at the meeting. Attendees did anti-Semitic statements and talked about superiority of whites. “The Holocaust did not begin with killing. It began with words,” the museum said in a statement.
There is also growing criticism of Trump. Groups in the US want him to dissociate himself from the alt-right movement. Trump has already received a lot of criticism because he has appointed Steve Bannon as his main strategic advisor. He was previously in charge of a website that is linked to the alt-right.
Other critics say that Trump with his statements has helped the far right. Several US anti-racism groups say to the New York Times that Trump should do something to dissociate himself from the alt-right.
Apologies
The transition team of Trump has said he “is the leader for every American. He denounces racism of any kind.”
The nationalist party took place at an Italian restaurant in Washington.
The extreme right conference itself was in the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington. A dinner connected to it was in the Italian restaurant.
This restaurant says that the nationalist group at the last minute had reserved under a different name. The restaurant has already offered apologies and promised to donate $ 10,000 to a Jewish civil rights movement.
TRUMP’S CAMPAIGN ISSUES SHORT STATEMENT DENOUNCING RACISM OF ANY KIND After outrage grew over a white nationalist conference in D.C. that celebrated the president-elect’s win with Nazi salutes. And HuffPost’s Eliot Nelson explains what drives the alt-right.
During his campaign Donald Trump announced a series of measures he was planning to carry out if he became President of the United States which had far reaching implications for Latin America. His plan to build a wall along the US border with Mexico immediately alerted the entire Latin American region for an imminent troublesome new era with their powerful Northern neighbour. Trump’s economic protectionist ideas have also originated great concerns about the immediate future of the Latin American economies which are extremely dependent of the large US market: here.
