100+ Yemeni Civilians Killed At Wedding By Saudi Airstrike
29 September 2015
The death toll from an air strike on a wedding party in Yemen has jumped to 131, medics said on Tuesday, in one of the deadliest attacks on civilians in Yemen’s war that drew strong condemnation from the U.N. secretary-general.
From daily The Morning Star in Britain:
MPs call for an end to Saudi arms sales
Friday 16th September 2016
BRITAIN should suspend all sales of weapons which could be used in Saudi Arabia’s military action in Yemen, MPs said yesterday.
A joint report by the the Commons business and international development committees called for a suspension until the completion of an independent inquiry into alleged human rights breaches.
It included evidence of “clear violations” of international humanitarian law, including the death of 47 civilians — among them 21 women and 15 children — when a wedding party was bombed.
The Commons foreign affairs committee released its own rival report insisting that exports should be blocked only if British courts rule the weapons sales unlawful.
But Campaign Against Arms Trade spokesman Andrew Smith said: “It should not take a court case for the UK to stop arming one of the most repressive dictatorships in the world while it is creating a humanitarian catastrophe in Yemen.
“The evidence that Saudi Arabia is violating international humanitarian law is overwhelming.”
