Cute Elk Calves Nursing and Exploring
6 September 2016
Bull Elk and healthy family of cows and calves born this past spring graze along the road under his watchful eye. The calves are still partially depending on mother’s milk, but always curious about what else might be good to eat.
This is part of the reintroduced elk herd in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
As female elk get older, they adopt strategies for avoiding hunters in Canada, according to a study published June 14, 2017 in the open-access journal PLOS ONE by Henrik Thurfjell from University of Alberta, Canada, and colleagues: here.
