Britain leaving European Union, after the referendum

This video says about itself:

Britain Votes to Leave EU in Brexit Vote

24 June 2016

Britain has voted to leave the EU in a historic break. Cameron has announced he will step down by October. Protesters boo Brexit campaign’s Johnson outside his home, and Italy calls Brexit vote a ‘wake-up call for Europe’.

From the Left Leave site in Britain:

#Lexit statement on the vote to leave the European Union

June 24, 2016

The Leave vote is above all else a rejection of the entire political establishment by millions of working class people who have been left to suffer austerity for decades with few defenders among the mainstream parties.

This is now a social crisis of the first order. Every institution of the British establishment backed Remain. The Tory party, despite professions of unity, is beginning an internal war. ‘It’s a hammer blow to Cameron’, reported the BBC this morning. Osborne is already talked of in the past tense.

This could have been a great Labour crusade if it had put itself at the head of this working class revolt but the Blairites forced Jeremy Corbyn to abandon his long held opposition to the EU.

And now, Blairites blame Corbyn for many Labour voters voting for leaving the European Union; saying that Corbyn was not enthusiastically enough pro-EU, and, unlike pro-EU Conservatives and Blairites, did not make xenophobic propaganda about stopping refugees more efficiently inside the European Union than outside it.

This has left the right to claim a victory which is not in truth theirs. Nearly 17 million people voted Leave, but only 3.8 million voted UKIP at the last election. But it is up to the left to now put itself squarely at the centre of opposition to the Tories and the right.

If you don’t want the racists to be the face of today’s result, then don’t let them. There is a significant proportion of those who voted Leave that did so on the basis of opposing the austerity and the neoliberal order that has directly impacted their lives and is part and parcel of the EU. Don’t be so quick to paint millions of people with the same brush as Farage.

Many on the left voted Remain for understandable reasons in a very divisive referendum. It is now time to unite around the most elementary demands that millions of working people will readily support.

The ONLY thing the left can do now, is to rally around this result and take the fight to the Tories.

End austerity now!

General election now!
No more ‘Fortress Europe’ – equality for migrant workers!

Infighting has erupted inside the defeated Britain Stronger in Europe campaign, with senior figures saying Conservatives on the campaign team repeatedly blocked it from making personal attacks on Michael Gove and Boris Johnson. They said that, until near the end of the campaign, Downing Street was paralysed by fear of “blue on blue” attacks: here.

Planet Neptune’s big dark vortex

Huge Dark Vortex in the Atmosphere of Neptune Confirmed by Hubble & Amateur Astronomers

24 June 2016

New images obtained on May 16, 2016, by Hubble Space Telescope and amateur astronomers confirm the presence of a dark vortex in the atmosphere of Neptune.

By Ed Mazza in the USA:

Neptune’s Massive New ‘Dark Vortex’ Is As Big As The United States

The high-pressure system is accompanied by bright “companion clouds.”

06/24/2016 02:46 am ET

An unusual new feature has appeared on Neptune: a “dark vortex” so massive that it would swallow the United States if it was here on Earth.

Dark vortices coast through the atmosphere like huge, lens-shaped gaseous mountains,” Berkeley research astronomer Mike Wong, who led the team that analyzed the Hubble data, said in a news release. “And the companion clouds are similar to so-called orographic clouds that appear as pancake-shaped features lingering over mountains on Earth.”

A dark vortex on Neptune is a high-pressure system that usually is accompanied by bright “companion clouds,” NASA said.

We speculate that these dark spots on Neptune (which are most visible at blue wavelengths) are probably ‘clear’ areas, openings in the cloud decks that see to deeper layers,” Heidi Hammel, a researcher at the Space Science Institute, told Astronomy magazine. “The bright companions (which are most visible at redder wavelengths) are thought to be higher-altitude clouds.”

Those companion clouds form by air being diverted over the vortex, which then causes gases to freeze, probably into methane ice crystals, NASA said.

The bright companion clouds were first spotted last summer by several observers, including amateur astronomers, who suspected that they might be indications of a dark vortex. However, since the vortex was best viewed in blue wavelengths, more detailed observation required aiming the Hubble Space Telescope at the feature.

Hubble’s image taken last month confirmed the vortex. While a similar feature was spotted by Voyager 2 in 1989, this was the first one seen on the planet in the 21st century.

“Neptune’s dark vortices have exhibited surprising diversity over the years, in terms of size, shape and stability (they meander in latitude, and sometimes speed up or slow down),” the space agency said. “They also come and go on much shorter timescales compared to similar anticyclones seen on Jupiter; large storms on Jupiter evolve over decades.”

Also on Thursday, NASA announced that it had extended Hubble’s science operations for another five years — until 2021.

“After the final space shuttle servicing mission to the telescope in 2009, Hubble is better than ever,” NASA said. “Hubble is expected to continue to provide valuable data into the 2020’s, securing its place in history as an outstanding general purpose observatory in areas ranging from our solar system to the distant universe.”

Move over, Hubble. This sharp pic of Neptune was taken from Earth. Cancelling out blur from Earth’s atmosphere lets astronomers focus like never before. By Lisa Grossman, 6:00am, July 18, 2018.

Donald Trump gets swastika golf balls in Scotland

Swastika golf balls prankster removed by Donald Trump's bodyguards

By Lee Moran today:

Donald Trump is not getting the warm Scottish welcome he was hoping for.

The presumptive GOP presidential nominee arrived in Scotland on Friday to officially open his new Trump Turnberry golf resort. Protesters greeted him with golf balls emblazoned with Swastikas, a symbol of Nazi Germany, at the opening of the course. …

Dozens of Twitter users branded Trump a “moron,” “weapons-grade plum” and “idiot” — including British pop star Lily Allen, TV presenter Sue Perkins and comedian Peter Serafinowicz.

Donald Trump‘s fury at Brit prankster hijacking his speech with Nazi golf balls in Scotland

The US presidential candidate was about to take to the podium at his Turnberry resort when the comedian Lee Nelson began giving out balls to the crowd

Donald Trump was left unimpressed when a British prankster hijacked his speech with Nazi golf balls at the re-opening of the billionaire’s golf resort.

The US presidential candidate was about to take to the podium at his Turnberry resort when comedian Lee Nelson interrupted and began giving out balls to the crowd.

Trump could be heard telling his security guards “get him out” as Nelson, real name Simon Brodkin, began speaking to the gathered members of the press.

Nelson, who appears to be wearing the Turnberry uniform, could be heard jokingly saying: “The new balls are available from the clubhouse as part of a new Trump Turnberry range.

“I forgot to hand them out before, I’m very sorry Mr Trump, and thank you, I apologise.”

As he was being dragged away, he told the crowd: “If you want you can hand them out, they are available as part of the new Trump range.”

A heap of red swastika golf balls could be seen lying on the floor in front of the billionaire after Nelson was removed. …

Earlier this year Nelson, who also uses the stage name Jason Bent, took the mickey out of the VW emissions scandal at high profile car launch.

Dressed in a VW mechanic’s jumpsuit, he jumped up on stage as the new car was unveiled and – in a German accent – said: “No one’s going to find out about this one”.

In July last year he famously ran up to Blatter during a FIFA press conference and handed him a wad of fake dollar bills.

He then threw more money into the air above the 79-year-old and said: “Sepp, this is for North Korea in 2026.”

Security, who were slow to react, eventually hauled Brodkin off stage, at which point he added: “Cheers, Sepp – it’s all there.”
