Blogger Recognition Award

My dear friend Xena of the blog We Hold These Truths To Be Self-evident has nominated Dear Kitty. Some blog for the Blogger Recognition Award.

Thank you so much for this kind gesture!

The rules of this award are:

Write a post to show your award.
Give a brief story of how your blog started.
Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
Thank whoever nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
Select 15 other blogs you want to give the award to.

My blog started in January 2005, then on ModBlog. ModBlog, however, was sold to a big corporation which killed it. So, I had to move to Blogsome. When Blogsome stopped, I moved to WordPress in December 2011.

Two pieces of advice for new bloggers are:

1. Especially in older blog posts, you may check whether links have become broken, and repair them. There is a tool for that, Xenu’s Link Sleuth, downloadable here.

2. Use categories and tags for your blog posts, making it easier for yourself, visitors, search engines etc. to find related posts. Not too many categories and tags, though; it seems that for WordPress over 12 for one blog post is too many.

I’m very honoured that you would nominate my blog. I’m afraid that I might not have the time to fulfill this commitment and a lot of my blogging friends have award-free blogs and I might have difficulty in finding 15 to participate. So I think it only fair that you nominate another blog in place of mine but thank you so much for thinking of me.

I used to use the tool as well. Personally, I don’t use it at the moment, because it is for finding broken links *you don’t know about*. At the moment, I still have many broken links I do know about: links to my old, defunct blog on Blogsome, before I moved to WordPress. I will start using Xenu’s Link Sleuth again once all those known broken links have been repaired 🙂

      Oh yes. I think that’s true. I’m just now beginning to understand that I need to make and index for some of my fiction.
      
      I think that I’ve outgrown the simple menu I use.
      
      So I need to figure out how I want that to look.
      
      It’s an endless process of learning new skills and making the blog more efficient for the reader.

Just do whatever you like to, and have time for, to do.

One possibility is to copy my blog post on this award and then change all things relating to me to things relating to you.
