Court documents expose Shell‘s false claims on Nigeria oil spills. Audrey Gaughran, Amnesty International‘s Director of Global Issues explains the significance of these documents and the potential repercussions.

Translated from NOS TV in the Netherlands today:

The Bulgarian cartel authorities are investigating whether Shell has made illegal agreements with other corporations. For this, a raid was made into an office in the capital Sofia.

According to Bulgarian media the agreements were on the prices of fuel.

OPPOSITION Socialist Party candidate Rumen Radev upset the odds yesterday by heading Sunday’s presidential poll which will go to a second round on November 13.

Mr Radev, a former air force officer who has urged the European Union to lift sanctions against Russia, had a narrow lead over the conservative government’s candidate, parliamentary speaker Tsetska Tsacheva.

Bulgaria, which joined the EU a decade ago, remains the poorest member of the bloc.

Economic “reforms” demanded by Brussels have fuelled disillusionment, forcing over a million young people out of a population of 7.2 million to emigrate in search of better futures abroad.

Mr Radev’s likely victory in the runoff poses a threat for Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and could prompt early general elections next spring.

The former fighter pilot has pledged to comply with Bulgaria’s EU obligations if elected.

But he insists that “being pro-European does not mean being anti-Russian.”
