Hillary Clinton and Bill de Blasio Racist Coloured People Time Joke

Clinton took the stage for a surprise appearance at Saturday’s Inner Circle Dinner and proceeded to needle Mayor Bill de Blasio for his belated endorsement.
“I just have to say thanks for the endorsement, Bill. Took you long enough,” Clinton told her former campaign manager.
“Sorry, Hillary, I was running on C.P. time,” de Blasio replied to gasps from the crowd.
As Raw Story explains, “C. P. time,” or “colored people time,” refers to “the stereotype that African Americans generally tell as a reason for being late to an event or a traditionally black event not beginning on time.”
“Hamilton” star Leslie Odom Jr., who is black, was onstage with de Blasio and Clinton. “I don’t like jokes like that,” he said to the mayor.
Clinton then appeared to rescue de Blasio by saying he meant “cautious politician time.”
The skit did not go over well with social media, where many users took issue with the racial nature of the material.

Hillary Clinton and New York Mayor Bill de Blasio sparked controversy at an event on Saturday with a racially charged joke.
Clinton and de Blasio were joined onstage by Leslie Odom Jr. in costume as Aaron Burr, whom he plays in the hit Broadway musical Hamilton. Clinton thanked de Blasio for his endorsement–which many pointed out came rather late in the game–and ribbed him, “Took you long enough.”
The mayor replied, “Sorry, Hillary, I was running on C.P. time.”
The abbreviation refers to the stereotype of “Colored People time,” and several people in the audience could be heard gasping or groaning. Odom, who is black … rebuked him, saying, “I don’t like jokes like that, Bill.”
Clinton dryly replied, “Cautious politician time. I’ve been there.”
The exchange prompted pushback online, both from bloggers and social media users.
Clinton, who has performed well with black voters in early primaries, will depend on their votes in the New York primary on April 19.
Claiming that “C.P. time” means “cautious politician time” is a bit similar to saying: “KKK? That does not have to mean Ku Klux Klan. Don’t you know that KKK can mean Krispy Kreme Klub, about doughnuts, as well?”

Hillary Clinton and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio are under fire after making a joke at a fundraising dinner that played off a negative stereotype of black Americans.
Appearing at the annual Inner Circle charity dinner, the Democratic presidential front-runner appeared in a sketch with Mr de Blasio, along with Hamilton actor Leslie Odom Jr., where she thanked him for his admittedly late endorsement.
“Thanks for the endorsement, Bill.” Ms Clinton said to cheers. “Took you long enough.”
“Sorry, Hillary. I was running on CP time,” Mr de Blasio responded to groans from the audience. One member can be heard in the video yelling, “No.”
“CP time” is shorthand for the phrase, “coloured people’s time,” which refers to the negative stereotype that black Americans are often running late.
Mr Odom, who is black, responded in character: “I don’t like jokes like that, Bill. That’s not appropriate.”
Ms Clinton clarified that “CP” actually stood for “cautious politician,” not the more commonly used racial stereotype.
The joke has been called “awkward,” “ill-advised,” and “a patently unfunny attempt at mimicking humour.”
Ms Clinton has been under scrutiny when it comes to race in recent weeks. Critics of the former Secretary of State accuse her of being a key advocate of the 1994 Crime Bill passed by President Bill Clinton that led to the mass incarceration of countless black people.
On Thursday, responding to such criticisms from Black Lives Matter activists, Mr Clinton appeared to lose his temper and accused the protesters of supporting murderers and drug dealers.
“You are defending the people who kill the lives you say matter,” he said.

The head of the Democratic Party, Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz, is trying to hamstring Elizabeth Warren’s signature initiative–and throwing women under the bus in the process. She is cosponsoring a bill that would pave the way for payday lenders to rip off women for years to come. Even worse, she’s rallying other Democrats to join her in advancing the bill.1
Payday lenders exploit poor people, especially women and people of color, with enormous fees and interest rates.2 They’re a huge reason that Senator Elizabeth Warren and President Obama created the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).
If Rep. Wasserman Schultz’s bill goes into effect, it’ll be at least two more years before the CFPB can start reigning in some of the worst payday lenders.3 But the backlash is growing, and if enough of us pile on, she’ll have to abandon the bill. Will you add your name?

Most white Americans, even many poor ones, can easily borrow up to $3,000 from someone in a real emergency. But only 1/4 of poor black people can borrow that kind of money in an emergency–and payday lenders have popped up to fill the void.4
Payday lenders charge astronomical interest rates, making the final amount due so high that people often have to take out new loans just to pay back the old ones. The cycle continues, driving people further into poverty–and it’s even worse for women, who are more likely to be poor and to seek out payday loans, than men.5
Rep. Wasserman Schultz’s advocacy on behalf of payday lenders is changing the game. Where before it was mostly conservatives pushing the bill, now with a prominent Democrat joining the fight against it, the CFPB could be at real risk of being undermined. We need to speak out loudly to make sure Rep. Wasserman Shultz knows her attacks on Senator Warren, and her support for an industry designed to funnel women into poverty, won’t be ignored or forgotten.

New York has enthusiastically welcomed Bernie back to his childhood home with open arms. Well, most of New York. There’s one very small part of the state that isn’t so excited to see him return.
Can you guess where?
An article titled “Jamie Dimon’s not-so-subtle warning for Bernie Sanders” welcomed our campaign to New York with this message from the Wall Street CEO: “Jamie Dimon waved a placard at Bernie Sanders in his annual shareholders letter on Wednesday. It says, in effect: ‘Don’t Bite the Hand That Feeds Us.'”
Here’s the truth: from day one, Wall Street has contributed more than $21 million to Hillary Clinton’s campaign and super PACs, and they are going to do everything they can to stop us in New York. Because if we can win there, we’re going to win everywhere. The stakes are high in these next two weeks, and that’s why we have to ask:
Contribute $2.70 to our campaign today. If everyone who has signed up to support this campaign renewed their commitment with a contribution, we will have the resources we need to beat Wall Street in the New York primary.
