This photo shows nature reserve De Petten on Texel island on 5 March 2016. That 5 March was our first full day on Texel island. Cold. Frost in the morning. Just above zero degrees centigrade later in the day.
Just before De Petten, two male pheasants along the bicycle track.
In the eastern lake a male northern shoveler swims.
Two male common pochard and one female.
Six spoonbills fly overhead. Probably just back from their spring migration from Africa.
In the dunes south of the western lake, many winter stalkball fungi.
Moss grows there as well.
In a pool two grey lag geese swim, and talk to each other.
A male reed bunting sings from a shrub.
Meadow pipits flying.
We passed the Kreeftenpolder dune valley.
In the Mokbaai bay, about 200 shelducks. And other birds.
As we go back, near Den Hoorn village domestic pigeons on a bulb field.
