ANTI-CORRUPTION protesters gathered in the Honduran capital Tegucigalpa on Monday as a government-backed investigative mission began its work.
The Indignant movement, set up last year, accused the Support Mission Against Corruption and Impunity in Honduras (MACCIH), which is supported by the Organisation of American States (OAS), of being weak and lacking independence.
Protesters favour the UN-backed International Commission Against Corruption and Impunity in Honduras, a group similar to that which helped bring down president Otto Perez Molina in neighbouring Guatemala in 2015.
Indignant leader Ariel Varela said the mission was not what his members demanded.
“But it is an achievement of the people in the streets and it is what we have,” he said.
