‘Child abuse nearly always by men the children know’

This video from the USA says about itself:

Catholic Church’s systematic abuse cover-up in the USA

16 November 2014

The Pope [John Paul II] played a leading role in a systematic cover-up of child sex abuse by Roman Catholic priests.

Translated from NOS TV in the Netherlands today:

Sexual abuse of minors is committed in the overwhelming majority of cases by acquaintances of the victims. Only 7 percent of all offenders are total strangers to the victims. In 36 percent of cases, the perpetrator is family.

And in the rest, neighbours, bosses, religious pastors, etc.

The cliché, promoted by the extreme right, of sexual abusers as non-white refugees laying in ambush for children to pass; a cliché which recently in Belgium led to falsely accusing an Iraqi refugee of child abuse and almost caused a swimming pool ban for all refugees; that cliché turns out to be wrong once again.

Every year [in the Netherlands] an average of over three hundred offenders are sentenced for sexual abuse of a child. On the basis of these convictions, the National Rapporteur on Trafficking and Sexual Violence against Children has published the report Abuse in court.

Much abuse remains hidden, because it does not lead to court cases. …

Girls are six times more often victims of sexual abuse than boys. The perpetrators are almost always men. In this study, five of the 182 perpetrators were female.
