Good tundra vole year on Dutch island


This video from the Netherlands shows a root vole, aka tundra vole.

Dutch mammal researcher Merijn van den Hoogenhoff reports today on tundra voles on Tiengemeten island.

Dutch tundra voles are an endemic subspecies, left over from the ice age.

2015 was a good year for them on Tiengemeten.

Of 356 prey animals in barn owl pellets there this year, there were 88 tundra vole skulls, 24.7%.
