Lyn’s story – Malnutrition Task Force Case Study
9 April 2014
An animated story highlighting the challenge of malnutrition in later life.
From daily The Morning Star in Britain today:
Meals on wheels, a Tory takeaway
STARVED: More than 46,000 elderly people have had their home-delivered meals taken away in the last three years while malÂnutrition continues to rise in Britain, the Malnutrition Task Force charity revealed yesterday.
According to its data the use of much-loved meals-on-wheels services has dropped by nearly half since 2011.
Figures come at the same time as hospital admissions for malnutrition soared among the 50 to 69 age group.
Sounds more like an advertisement for ‘care homes’. Not everyone would agree that a ‘care home’ would be better, especially with the extortionate fees they charge the elderly.

That is indeed a real problem. However, a problem separate from malnutrition on which the video focuses. One further problem is that the Conservative government’s cuts on meals-on-wheels may make care homes the only possible alternative for some people.
