The Great Dictator was banned for decades in Portugal; until the dictatorship there fell in the 1970s.

Look up, indeed. ☺ I hadn’t seen this one in while, thanks. He was so ahead of is time. A brilliant message from a master of communication, in silence or in words.

Indeed, such a beautiful end to a great film. Though Chaplin himself said later (correctly) that the film still underestimated the horrors of Hitler’s Third Reich.

If it was done by 1940, the worst horrors had not yet been witnessed. It is interesting how it can be relevant today in Europe.
