Torture tools for sale at London arms fair

This video from London, England says about itself:

Reasons to Occupy The Arms Fair – Torture

7 September 2015

In September, the world’s largest arms fair is taking place in London. Weapons and equipment specifically designed to inflict suffering, pain, injury and death will be bought and sold in London Docklands.

Many of these weapons will be sold to countries on the UK’s list of human rights abusers, to fight wars that take a huge toll on civilian populations, causing famine, starvation and poverty.

Occupy Democracy is supporting Stop The Arms Fair, Campaign Against The Arms Trade and a broad coalition of protest groups to occupy, to obstruct, hinder and ultimately, to stop the arms fair from taking place.

Join Occupy the Arms Fair, from Monday 7th to Saturday 12th September where we’ll mount a 24 hour presence at the gates of the Excel exhibition centre. Bring tents, warm clothing, food, good vibes and creative ideas to occupy together for a more peaceful world.

The site of the occupation will be on the roundabout joining Royal Albert Way and Sandstone Lane on the eastern side of ExCeL London.

Illegal torture tools on sale in London

Saturday 12th September 2015

ILLEGAL tools of torture will be on sale in Britain when the government-backed London Arms Fair starts on Tuesday next week.

Human rights group Amnesty International yesterday warned that, in previous years, the fair has featured internationally denounced illegal cluster bombs, torture equipment and imprisonment, including electric shock batons and leg irons.

These are expected to be offered alongside the usual array of missiles, tanks, killer drones, machine guns and other weapons.

The Defence and Security International fair welcomes buyers from some of the world’s most repressive regimes.

Amnesty arms programme director Oliver Sprague said: “This shouldn’t be happening — there are laws in the EU that prohibit the trade in torture equipment. But savvy companies are exploiting loopholes to trade in these items.

“This law needs to be tightened — we must not be complicit in equipping torturers.

“Despite promises to clamp down on this practice, no company has ever been prosecuted for peddling torture equipment at UK arms fairs.”

Protest meetings and events, including floating wreaths down the Thames, have been staged this week in the run-up to the arms fair, which takes place at the Excel exhibition centre in east London’s Docklands from Tuesday to Friday.

Blockades and protests are planned at the centre’s main entrance throughout the fair.

I’ve known these things are going on for years, and it makes me disgusted that our government would allow such a thing to happen right in front of everyone in the country.

The Tories are worse because they parade it like it’s some way to raise funds for the country. And the thing is, they are causing these war lords to kill people and start wars because its for fucking money.

They say money is the root to all evil, but you have to be psychopathic and narcissistic to do it in full display like the Tories.

And the money isn’t going towards the debt, but them and their rich friends fat pockets.

Fuck you Tory scum! Fuck you!

We need to stand together as one to stop the evil Tories, we need to rid them from parliament now.

AMNESTY International called on the European Union yesterday to apply its own Torture Trade Regulation and stop the “marketing and promotion” of torture instruments.

The rights charity published a report outlining how legal loopholes have allowed “potential tools of torture,” including spiked batons, thumbcuffs, weighted leg restraints and spiked shields, to be advertised and even displayed at trade fairs, even though trading in them is banned.

Last year the European Parliament proposed a ban on marketing security equipment which could be used to inflict cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment, but the EU’s only elected body lacks the power to initiate legislation and the European Council refused to accept the recommendation.

Amnesty and the Omega Research Foundation are urging the European Council to accept the parliament’s suggestion and “ensure that no person or company trading within EU jurisdiction can in any way profit from the trade in implements of human suffering.”
