The first northern lapwing egg of this year was found in Schelluinen, in South Holland. The egg was reported yesterday to LandschappenNL; since it was determined that it is a fresh egg.

The egg was not taken because that is illegal. There is now a second egg in the same nest.

Meadow bird season

With this discovery the meadow bird season has begun. Each year about 200,000 lapwing couples are breeding in Netherlands, about a quarter of the European population.
