BBC News at One – Operation Midland – investigation into child sex abuse & murder allegations

18 December 2014

Police are investigating the possible murders of three boys in connection with an alleged paedophile ring involving powerful people including senior figures in public life, the military, law enforcement and politicians in the 1970s and 80s.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The BBC’s Tom Symonds said: “This is possibly the Met’s most sensitive investigation at this time. It stems from allegations by a man called Nick who came forward to the investigative news website Exaro, and then went to the police. He gave a detailed statement which the police found to be credible and in their words ‘true’.

The police are looking at the possibility that three children have been murdered, and the possibility that one child was run over at some point during this period.

They are looking at whether there was abuse at military establishments, some of the abusers are suspected to be senior military figures, and senior figures from law enforcement, and senior politicians.

The officers are looking at whether some of the abuse took place in a flat in Dolphin Square.

The police are appealing for witnesses to come forward, they want victims to feel reassured that they can trust the police to do the right thing and they will be listened to.

They would like to speak to anyone who might have perhaps worked or lived at Dolphin Square.

Ex-Tory MP Harvey Proctor denies any role in Westminster abuse ring

Thursday 5 March 2015 09.09 GMT

Denial comes as detectives from Met’s Operation Midland inquiry into historical abuse allegations search former MP’s Leicestershire home

The former Conservative MP Harvey Proctor has denied being part of a “rent-boy ring” or attending sex parties with other prominent figures, after his home was searched by police investigating historical allegations of child sex abuse.

Proctor – who left parliament in 1987 after pleading guilty to acts of gross indecency – said he knew nothing about a VIP paedophile ring alleged to have existed at Westminster during the 1970s and 1980s, or allegations that three boys linked to the abuse were murdered.

A Metropolitan police spokesman confirmed that “officers from Operation Midland are carrying out a search of an address in Grantham [in Lincolnshire] in connection with their inquiries”.

Operation Midland was launched by the Met last November following allegations that boys were sexually abused by a VIP paedophile ring centred on Westminster more than 30 years ago, amid claims that sex parties involving boys below the age of consent were held at the Dolphin Square apartment block near the Houses of Parliament.

The operation includes detectives from the child abuse investigation command and the homicide and major crime command.

Proctor, 68, works for the Duke and Duchess of Rutland and lives in a house within the 16,000-acre grounds of their home Belvoir Castle, in Leicestershire, near Grantham. …

Proctor represented Basildon in Essex from 1979 to 1983 and Billericay, also in Essex, from 1983 to 1987. He also sat on the executive of the right-wing pressure group the Monday Club.

  1. Interesting enough most sex exposures seem as if they are around creative or art orientated people yet the insinuations of high profile figures, even British Establishment people who are involved with this area of crime having little or non convictions? the question is are they above the law?

Police searched the home of former Tory MP Harvey Proctor yesterday while investigating allegations of a historic paedophile ring in Westminster.

The former Basildon and Billericay MP (pictured) was forced to quit Parliament in 1987 after pleading guilty to acts of gross indecency involving underage rent boys.

Always on the extreme right of the party, Proctor was elected as MP for Basildon in 1979 after a campaign in which he argued in favour of restricting the number of “coloured” immigrants.

He went on to be chairman of the ultra-reactionary Monday Club’s immigration and repatriation committee.

In June 1986, newspapers claimed that Proctor had taken part in the spanking and caning of male prostitutes, aged between 17 and 21, in his London flat. The age of consent for gay men was still 21 at that time.

At his trial in May 1987, Proctor pleaded guilty and was fined a total of £1,450.

Speaking yesterday a Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed that “officers from Operation Midland are carrying out a search of an address in Grantham in connection with their inquiries.”

Midland was launched by the Met following allegations that boys were sexually abused at sex parties held at the exclusive Dolphin Square apartment block near the Houses of Parliament.

It is also examining claims that three of the victims were murdered.
