This video is about the pleated sea squirt, Styela plicata.
In the spring of 2008, the sea squirt species Corella eumyota (orange-tipped sea squirt) was found for the first time in the Netherlands. That was in the harbour of Burghsluis, at the Oosterschelde estuary.
In 2014 and 2015, it was also found at another Oosterschelde spot, Westbout.
So, this originally South American species seems to be spreading, but slowly.
I would imagine if a meta study was done to see the movement of many species this movement would be indication of many phenomena, including response to over fishing, global warming, to ocean acidification.

I think the most obvious cause is transoceanic ship traffic, bringing the animals with the ships.

Then it would be considered an invasive species which may be a correct designation if this species wasn’t seen previously in this location. Hopefully it will not be one that disrupts the food web in the area.

Yes, it is originally from South America. Its Dutch name translates as “Chilean sea squirt”.
