Common garden birds 16 05 2013

Featuring European Robin, House Sparrow, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Starling and Jackdaw.

This weekend, there was the national garden bird count in the Netherlands.

The top 10 species were (translated from here):

Also, some rare birds were seen. Including Siberian lesser whitethroat; long-tailed rosefinch; and Oriental turtle dove.

    MIJN TUIVOGELTELLINGFORMULIER OP TILT!

    Altijd leuk om zelf ook mee te doen met de tuinvogeltelling. Uiteraard
    had ik de afgelopen dagen al flink gevoerd om met een fatsoenlijke
    score voor de dag te kunnen komen. De meeste vogels uit de top tien kon
    ik wel scoren. Koolmees, merel, mooie spreeuwen en nog veel meer. Al
    dagenlang zwerft hier een grote troep holenduiven rond. Alles wat de
    zangvogels en eekhoorns uit de voederautomaten morsen valt op de grond
    en daar komen dat deze holenduifjes op af. Mogelijk een groep
    Scandinaviërs die hier overwintert. Langzaam druppelen ze uit onze hoge
    es naar beneden tot de hele voederplaats blauw ziet . Ik vulde dan ook
    trots 31 holenduiven in op de website waarop, in rode letters het
    bericht verscheen: zoveel holenduiven in een tuin is zeer
    ongebruikelijk, met andere woorden, weet u het wel zeker! Ik doe er
    dus maar wel bewijspixels bij al staan ze daar niet alle 31 op! Kort na
    mijn telling kwam de sperwerman nog even langs en griste een vink van
    de voederplek, net te laat om mee te tellen!
