This video is about a northern lapwing nest.
Dutch NOS TV reports that for this spring, collecting northern lapwing eggs in Friesland province is banned.
Collecting lapwing eggs was already illegal in all other provinces. In Friesland, where it is an old tradition, provincial authorities OK’d it.
Dutch conservation organisation Faunabescherming sued Friesland authorities about that. The supreme court has now decided that the Frisian authorities should have investigated northern lapwing decline in Friesland first before permitting collecting.
As it is too late now for such an investigation, this spring collecting lapwing eggs will be illegal in Friesland.
