Freek Groen, appointed to lead research into the use of carcinogenic paint in the Dutch defense department, will step down. He told Minister Hennis so.

Former Air Force Commander Green has been under fire for some time. In the 1990’s he was commander at the Twente airbase and is said to have ignored complaints from employees about the chrome paint. A group of defense staff said they became ill because of the paint.

Groen says he has made this decision because of the impact of the “persistent allegations” against him.
