It appears that in Jalpaiguri, if you refuse to follow the diktat of the local Kangaroo Court, you will be raped and murdered and your naked body will be left on the side of train tracks. It appears that the local TMC neta might be involved in the matter. The Police say that they are investigating the case but have only nabbed 3 out of the 12 accused in the case.

Police arrest one after communists ramp up pressure to find killers

WEST BENGAL police made one arrest yesterday after the naked body of a 15-year-old girl who had tried to save her father from a beating was found on a railway line in Jalpaiguri district.

After identifying the body, her father lodged a police complaint against 13 men for the “rape, murder and kidnapping” of his daughter.

Local students organised by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and other left-wing groups went on strike and blocked local roads, demanding punishment for the culprits.

The man, a farmer, had been summoned on Monday to a village “reconciliation meeting” to answer charges of non-payment for a tractor he had rented.

His daughter had been warned by village elders of “dire consequences” if she persisted in protesting against plans to beat her father.

She was taken away and was not seen again before the discovery of her body, which has been sent for post-mortem.

Local villagers said political rivalry between the village elders and the girl’s family could have led to an escalation of the dispute – the elders are reported to be supporters of the ruling Trinamul Congress party, while the girl’s family reportedly supports the state’s main opposition Communist Party of India (Marxist).

Earlier this year, a woman in West Bengal’s Birbhum district was gang-raped, allegedly on orders of village elders who objected to her relationship with a man.

In 2010, village elders in Birbhum ordered at least three tribal women to strip and walk naked in front of large crowds, police said.

The women were being punished for “having close relations” with men from other communities.
