Dutch Internet provider sues British spies

This video about Britain is called The GCHQ Tempora Programme.

Translated from NOS TV in the Netherlands:

Dutch provider sues GCHQ

Wednesday, 2 July 2014, 14:48 (Update: 02-07-14, 15:01)

The Dutch ISP Greenhost sues the British eavesdropping service GCHQ. Together with six other companies the provider requires that the British wiretapping of their computers should stop immediately.

The companies, since the revelations of whistleblower Edward Snowden, became very concerned about the security of their files. They say the GCHQ obtains unauthorized access to private communications of their customers.

Publeaks

Greenhost, inter alia, provides web space for the Dutch whistleblower site Publeaks. Because of the GCHQ spying, lives are in danger now, says Greenhost.

“To us, Publeaks is still safe, but it turns out once again that the secret services do mass surveillance,” said a spokesman. “We’re not sure whether we are spied upon now, or will be in the future. Certainly, these practices are harmful. It undermines our trustworthiness.”

European Court

The indictment was submitted by providers today a special tribunal about intelligence in London. It is, according to Greenhost, uncertain whether the case will actually go ahead. “They are not uncontroversial. Should they not deliver, then we will go to the European Court.”

The seven providers do not provide Internet connections to consumers, but are called web server providers; providing infrastructure, web space and domain names particularly for businesses.

  1. [ Smiles ] Although it would be nice to see the Dutch internet provider win their case in court, I think that the GCHQ is somewhat untouchable.
