This video is about singing male blackcap.
This morning, Hans Slabbekoorn, who does research on bird songs at Leiden university, was interviewed on Dutch Vroege Vogels radio.
He told about research into songs by blackcap males. It turns out that, if a blackcap male sings to a female, there are more softer notes in the song. While, if he sings to another male, a potential rival, the songs have more louder notes.

ZWARTKOP IS DOP OP KARMOZIJNBESSEN
Ons huis is eigenlijk een perfecte schuilhut. Pas zag ik nog heel even
een spotvogel op doortrek, de tjiftjaf dwarrelt dagelijks door de
kronkelwilg, er valt altijd wel wat te zien. Dit najaar valt het me op
dat er dagelijks zwartkoppen door onze karmozijnstruiken scharrelen. Ze
staan op een paar meter afstand van het keukenraam en zijn goed te
zien.
Nou ja, goed te zien, ze scharrelen tussen de groene bladderen door en
reiken naar de rijpe bessen. Elke dag zijn er weer nieuwe donkerrode
bessen rijp dus loont het om steeds weer terug te komen. Het gebeurt
allemaal heel stiekem en onopvallend. Maar…slaan bij u ook spontaan
karmozijn bessen op, haal ze dan niet weg maar laat ze groeien en
bloeien, de zwartkoppen zijn er blij mee! Beeld heb ik er (nog) niet
van maar wel van een zonnebadende heggemus op de stoep en let u eens op
zijn mooie roodbruine oogje!

The government of EU member state Cyprus has requested a permit (exemption of the Birds Directive) from the European Union to hunt on Blackcaps (Photo). Millions are trapped with mist nets and cruel limesticks, feeding the restaurant trade with the illegal meze delicacy ‘ambelopoulia’. If it were up to the government in Nicosia, the species would also be allowed to be shot. Thankfully Brussels has clearly rejected this absurd request. EU Environment Commissioner Vella has stated that the EU will ensure that there is never a derogation passed to allow the hunting of warblers within the member states!
(Ambelopoulia means birds of the vineyards).
Ambelopoulia is a controversial dish of pickled or grilled songbirds served in some Cypriot restaurants. Warbler species such as Blackcaps (Sylvia atricapilla), and old world flycatchers such as European Robins (Erithacus rubecula) are the most prized, although any small bird of about that size (bite size, literally) will be served. They are trapped by indiscriminant methods (e.g., mist nets and limesticks), often combined with the broadcasting of recordings of bird calls over speakers to attract the birds. In simple terms then, why is the Ambelopoulia trapping a problem? Answer: The trapping methods used are so indiscriminant and result in the deaths of birds from such a wide array of species. Individual birds from over 150 (!!!) different species have been found to be trapped and killed. Even worse, the number of species with conservation status of “vulnerable” or worse exceeds 28, and the number of species with limited global range includes at least 9 species, according to surveys. Just about any bird that would fly through a garden, orchard, or similar habitat can fall prey to the trapping methods used in Cyprus. Er vloog een vogeltje tegen het raam met noodlottige gevolgen. Het
lijkt op
een zwartkop, maar op de foto lijkt er een groene tint te zijn.
Eventueel
door de kwaliteit van de smartphone.
Is er verwarring mogelijk met een andere soort? Zwarte mees of
matkopmees
kan ik wel uitsluiten.
