Pope‘s Brother: I Ignored Physical Abuse Reports
9 March 2010
Pope Benedict‘s brother, the Rev. Georg Ratzinger, said in an interview that he slapped pupils as punishment after he took over a renowned German boy’s choir in the 1960’s.

Money for victims of violence by church
Update: Friday 27 May 2014, 12:16
Some 350 victims of violence by employees of the Roman Catholic Church will get compensation. In total, the Catholic Church will pay one million euros. This is not about victims of sexual abuse.
The victims have faced excessive physical and psychological violence in Catholic boarding schools. They were abused or harassed. Some were beaten with pieces of wood, or had to eat their own vomit or got hot soup poured over their bodies.
The commission received 3,500 complaints and reports. The amounts go up to 5000 euro per person.

Five thousand Euros, is a paltry sum to pay to victims of abuse, suggesting the Church is unrealistic in paying compensation to those who are damaged for life, this order has immense wealth, if the present Pope is sincere in paying compensation should intervene and pay a reasonable amount of money for the gravity of damage done, if he is restrained by the politics of the Church, should apologise to victims, with regard to payment of so little for so much harm.

Yes, and five thousand was the maximum. Some victims got less.

VATICAN: Pope to set up child abuse panel
The Holy See announced yesterday that Pope Francis is setting up a panel to examine appeals against clergy found guilty of molesting children.
The church claims to be cracking down on priests who sexually abuse children, but critics accuse the Vatican of moving too slowly to decide the ultimate fate of these priests.
Bishops accused of molesting children will still have preferential treatment and will not have their cases expedited by the new panel.
