Although it is too early still to speak of a good season for the Purple Heron, the early signs are positive. In four colonies counted in the Green Heart region in the Netherlands, Purple Herons appeared to do at least as well as in 2013 and that was a good year. The colony of Kinderdijk increases to 165 nests, a record high, and the Zouweboezem scores well too with 161 nests. Last year the figures were 120 and 150 respectively.
