Costa Rica hummingbirds and other mountain birds

Green violetear hummingbird

This beautiful green violetear hummingbird was photographed on 15 March 2014, between the Poas volcano and the Atlantic coast of Costa Rica.

On 15 March 2014, we left Alajuela in Costa Rica. From there, we went first to the Poas volcano.

Great-tailed grackles along the way.

Cattle egrets between cattle.

Walking to the Poas crater, mountain elenias sang.

The symbol of a regional conservation organization for the central mountains of Costa Rica is a local bird: the black-faced solitaire, pictured here in the organisation’s logo.
