A batch of rejected French horse meat has reached the Dutch market by fraud with horse passports. State Secretary of Economic Affairs Dijksma has written this to parliament.
The fraud was discovered in France last month. It is about 200 slaughtered horses which were from equestrian centers, laboratories and individuals. The 11,000 kilograms of meat was rejected, but still ended up at five Dutch companies by fraud with horse passports.
Last year, there were more scandals with horse meat in France. In March it was shown that French beef products had been mixed systematically with horse meat. In December, 21 people were arrested in France who sold meat of horses from pharmaceutical laboratories. That meat may contain drugs, such as antibiotics.
