This video is about a siskin at a bird table in the Netherlands. Later in the video, a great tit and a chaffinch appear, briefly. Still later, a greenfinch couple and a male house sparrow.
The Dutch SOVON ornithologists report that, so far, compared to last year, siskin migration numbers are only about half of last year’s.
Maybe this because the siskins‘ nesting season in Scandinavia this year was not as good as in 2012. Maybe more siskins will come to the Netherlands in December, as it will get colder.
The worst ever Dutch siskin migration was in 1976. Then, at a bird ringing station near Wassenaar, where they banded birds day after day, only one siskin was caught. While that station’s fourteen-year siskin average was 111.
