After all the bloggers who were so kind to nominate Dear Kitty. Some blog for awards, today another award.

Thank so very much II 4S Aopmrdd, for nominating me for the Very Inspiring Blogger award!

The rules are to thank and link back to the blogger which has nominated you, then post the award logo to your blog, write a post on the nomination and nominate 15 other very inspiring bloggers. Notify them; and tell 7 things about yourself.

Seven things about myself:

1. In the Antarctic, I saw a humpback whale jumping out of the sea.

2. On that journey, I also saw, fleetingly, another whale. Probably a minke whale.

3. From the ferry from Turkey to Lesbos island in Greece, I saw common bottlenose dolphins.

4. I saw two common porpoises on Schiermonnikoog island in the Netherlands.

5. Unfortunately, these beached porpoises were dead.

6. On Texel island outside Ecomare museum, I saw a sperm whale … well, a model of a sperm whale 🙂

7. In front of Ecomare museum, I saw a “hotel” for solitary bees and other insects, made of old bottles, straw, etc.

Here come my fifteen nominees:

1. The Illustrious Peacock

2. Screwiness-o-rama

3. Corina Lăzărescu

4. Lila’s Twist

5. Sherbet and Sparkles

6. Daina’s Book

7. vienaqui

8. dlightblog

9. Elisa Ruland

10. twng32

11. Before I Forget

12. Mind Games

13. Brandon Bored

14. Serendipity

15. LilyPetal

  2. Before I get into the nitty gritty of a formal thank you posting, I want to express my sincere gratitude to you for liking me and my work enough to honor me. It’s rare to get so much appreciation. Most of our lives are spent laboring without honors, awards, or notice. After so many years of anonymity, this is a delightful and totally unexpected turn of events.

As a side note, my husband and I were part of a whale ride out of Gloucester on Cape Ann. It must have been 20 years ago now … I was definitely a whole lot younger and so was he! But we saw so many whales … not any of the really huge ones, but minkes and right whales galore and many others. They performed an entire whale ballet for hours. They leaped and twirled on their tails and generally put on the best display I could have hoped for. I gathered later that this was not typical and whale viewing excursions didn’t usually get to have a quite so much attention from our sea brothers. it was glorious.

A few years later, on a cruise through the inner Caribbean, we often had porpoises riding the wake of the ship. The ship’s crew would tell us when they were riding with us, and we could watch them through the dining room portals. It was wonderful.

My husband, while a reporter, was part of an excursion to return a right whale to the ocean … and he could hear the wild whales singing as tjeu accompanied the craft out into the deep part of the Atlantic. It has always remained in his memory.

  3. Dear Kitty,
Thanks so much for nominating me! This week I am going to different homes with Santa and taking photos (for the Visiting Angels). But as soon as I can, I do intend to post this wonderful Inspiring Blogger award that you have given me, along with the Versatle Blogger award that I got (on Dec. 11th) from the “Second Half Woman” :
    http://secondhalfwoman.wordpress.com/
These 2 blogging awards mean so much to me—-and here is the reason why:
Many years ago (when I was married to a very mean man), I was told by a college counselor that I should be a writer or maybe major in philosophy.
When I went home, I told the very mean man about the advice I had been given.
He laughed at me and said, “WHAT? How stupid is that! Writers starve to death and philosophers ride around on donkeys and get hit with palm branches. AND what makes you think anyone would ever want to read anything you write? What a joke! What a complete waste of time that would be.”
    Well. Hmmmm.
Here it is 22 years later (without him), and in 2011—I did finally get a degree in Philosophy ….and…..I am actually getting awards from other writers just like me.
Do you know what that means?
It means that he was totally and completely wrong.
People are actually reading what I write. I am not a waste of time!
    Listen to me smiling!
