Australia Mints Bird Coins

September 18, 2012

The new Birds of Australia coin series is now available from the Perth Mint. According to Numismaster.com, the first coin in the series was released September 4 and features the endemic red-tailed black cockatoo. The bird is in color on the coin, in an attractive native setting. Future coins in the series will feature other Australian native birds, including the budgerigar, regent bowerbird, rainbow lorikeet and splendid fairy-wren.

All of the coins are legal tender in Australia and will be available to collectors worldwide in a limited edition. Learn more about coin collecting, and visit the Perth Mint to add these beautiful bird coins to your collection!
