Bahraini human rights activist interviewed

Maryam al-Khawaja is the acting President for the Bahrain centre for Human rights (BCHR) that is campaigning against the human rights abuses perpetrated by the Bahrain government.

Her father is human rights activist Abdulhadi Al-Khawaja, who was sentenced to life imprisonment on 22 June 2011. Her sister is Zainab Al-Khawaja, another prominent Bahraini human rights activist, was arrested and beaten by police officers last month.

IB Times UK journalist Gianluca Mezzofiore interviewed Maryam al-Khawaja about human rights efforts in Bahrain, and whether a discussion on the issue can be opened with the current government.
