Dutch breeding birds

This is a little egret video.

17 March 2011.

Translated from the Dutch ornithologists of SOVON, reporting on the 2009 Dutch birds nesting season:

The 2009 breeding season came after a winter which was colder than usually. That immediately led to a sharp decline in species such as Little Egret, Kingfisher [see photo here] and Grey Wagtail, while Grey Heron and Barn Owl suffered as well. Other species such as Cetti’s Warbler were able to survive in winter much better than expected. Apart from the impact of winter, quite a few species are in trouble, think of Hen Harrier, Short-eared Owl, Crested Lark and Fieldfare.
