This is a video of the great white pelican, recorded near Sassenheim.
Translated from NOS TV in the Netherlands:
German windmill kills escaped Artis pelican
Thursday, October 27, 2011, 16:33
The young [great white] pelican which escaped from Artis zoo in August is dead. In Germany, it collided with a windmill.
After the pelican was found, it was brought to the zoo in Frankfurt to study it. A chip that the animal was carrying showed that it was indeed the pelican from Artis. The Amsterdam zoo is sad, until now they were hopeful that the bird would return safely.
Since his escape the pelican was monitored closely. He was until recently near the Kagerplassen in Sassenheim. The animal managed to survive well, so it was difficult to catch.
