Arrests made over pork label scandal
CHINA: Authorities have arrested two Wal-Mart employees and detained 25 others in the south-western city of Chongqing, local media reported today.
The arrests follow an order to close 13 of the company’s stores in the city for at least a fortnight.
The US retail giant has also been fined 2.7 million yuan (£265,000) in a scandal involving mislabelled pork.
Wal-Mart has run into a string of problems in the city.
In March authorities threatened to withdraw its licence to trade after it was caught selling expired duck meat.
