NATO kills Libyan civilians

Libyan civilians ‘killed in Nato air strike

Seven civilians have been killed in a Nato air strike in eastern Tripoli, according to Libyan officials.

Reporters were shown bodies, two of them of toddlers, with officials claiming they died in a “barbaric” Nato air raid in the early hours of Sunday morning. …

Arada is a neighbourhood in the Souq al-Juma district, which is known for anti-Gaddafi sentiment.

Although NATO has not responded to the incident, it has acknowledged targeting a column of rebel military vehicles by mistake in the oil port city of Brega last week. Though there were no casualties, rebels said many of their fighters were injured.

Several rescuers continued to search the destroyed home in Al Juma, alongside emergency services personnel for more bodies. Locals say the entire family has been wiped out but this has yet to be verified. …

The U.N. estimates the fighting in Libya to have killed several thousands, with more than 750,000 forced to flee the oil-rich country.
