  1. Rights defender’s family locked up

BAHRAIN: A daughter of a prominent Bahraini human rights activist went on hunger strike today to protest against the arrest of several family members — including her father and her husband — in the wake of militant civil-rights demonstrations in the Gulf country.

Zainab al-Khawaja said that she won’t eat until her father Abdulhadi al-Khawaja is released along with her husband, brother-in-law and uncle.

Abdulhadi al-Khawaja is a former Middle East and north Africa director of Frontline Defenders rights organisation.

He also documented human rights abuses in Bahrain for Amnesty International.
