A new mushroom species on the island!
It is Melanotus (or Psilocybe) horizontalis.
It was found in a strange place: on a rope! Mushroom expert Marcel Groenendaal has discovered it in the nature reserve Ceres on Texel. This species grows often on strange things: waste, cardboard, old dirty mattresses, and sometimes just on wood. Throughout the Netherlands, the rare fungus has been found only 100 times.
