Belgian bishop paid abused nephew

The former bishop of Bruges has paid money to a cousin whom he abused sexually for years. The diocese has confirmed this. According to the West Flanders diocese, this was about significant amounts, and it was not hush money but compensation. The payments supposedly started after the abuse had stopped. Belgian Bishop Roger Vangheluwe (73) resigned in April after he had confessed abusing his nephew.
