Bishop Van Luyn of Rotterdam has reported a priest to the government authorities. The man was immediately suspended.
The diocese said that in July 2009, it had been informed of possible sexual abuse by the priest in Sri Lanka. He is also said to have committed fraud with money from a charity. After its own investigation the diocese concluded that it should inform the Public Prosecutor.
Fifteen years ago, the diocese of Rotterdam had already received information about this man. The priest would then have violated his celibacy vow. He then got just a warning.
