Fox News Downplays Massey Energy Safety Problems

4/6/10 Reporter Jonathan Hunt downplayed the safety violations at the Upper Big Branch mine in West Virginia by suggesting that they were insignificant without bothering to report on whether or not that was actually the case. Hunt also failed to report that the company was attempting to avoid paying fines and he ignored altogether its antagonism to unions.

In the wake of Monday’s explosion at the Upper Big Branch mine in southern West Virginia, a mass of evidence has emerged of wanton and pervasive safety violations by coal giant Massey Energy, the owner of the mine: here.

Funeral services were held Friday for three of the miners killed in the explosion at the Upper Big Branch coal mine in West Virginia, as hope faded for finding alive the four miners still missing: here.

Rescue workers searching the Upper Big Branch coal mine near Montcoal, W.V., located the bodies of four missing miners, officials announced early this morning. Their deaths bring the toll from a massive explosion April 5 at the troubled Massey Energy mine to 29, making this the worst coal mining disaster since 1970: here.
