Unemployment hits 212 million
World: An incredible 212 million people across the world were officially considered unemployed at the end of 2009, the International Labour Organisation (ILO) has revealed.
The figure amounts to 6.6 per cent of the global workforce, but the ILO cautioned that the figures did not include hundreds of millions of more people working in the informal sector.
“The number of unemployed worldwide in 2009 was an unprecedented rise of 34 million over 2007,” an ILO report stated.
