Sarkozy faces mass union protest
France: Six leading French unions have called for nationwide protests on October 7 against President Nicolas Sarkozy‘s labour policies.
The CFDT, CGC, CGT, FSU, Solidaires and UNSA unions put aside differences yesterday and agreed on a new round of protests against Mr Sarkozy‘s handling of the recession.
They called on workers to “participate massively.”
The French interior minister Brice Hortefeux, one of Nicolas Sarkozy’s closest friends, is at the centre of a race row after he was accused of making apparently insulting jokes about France’s large North African community: here.
