And the racism keeps on coming.

“The election of our first black president has brought with it a strange proliferation of online racism among conservatives.

And we’ve got the latest example.

On Sunday night, Dr. David McKalip forwarded to fellow members of a Google listserv affiliated with the Tea Party movement the image … [above]. Above it, he wrote: “Funny stuff.”

Now, Tea Party activists trafficking in racist imagery are pretty much dog bites man. But McKalip isn’t just some random winger. He’s a Florida neurosurgeon, who serves as a member of the American Medical Association’s House of Delegates.

He’s also an energetic conservative opponent of health-care reform. McKalip founded the anti-reform group Doctors For Patient Freedom, as well as what seems to be a now defunct group called Cut Taxes Now. Last month he joined GOP congressmen Tom Price and Phil Gingrey, among others, for a virtual town hall to warn about the coming “government takeover of medicine.” And in a recent anti-reform op-ed published in the St. Petersburg Times, McKalip wrote that “Congress wants to create larger, government-funded programs for health care and more bureaucracy that ration care and impose cookbook medicine.””

I wonder how his African American patients have recovered after he treats them?

These racists are nostalgic for the George W. Bush era.

Talking about that era:

The specter of a police state

Bush administration considered using military to arrest “Lackawanna Six”

Discussions over using the military to arrest six US citizens outside Buffalo, New York in 2002 were part of a concerted effort to expand presidential power and the domestic role of the Armed Forces.

  1. Hi,

I was wondering if you would be willing to link to my website at www. dirtyliberal. com , in exchange for a link to your site and maybe a free bumper sticker off my site?

let me know if you are interested.

  2. Without some actual imperical study of Obama critics from different areas there will be no way to know whether racism plays much a part or not. Mere intuitive hunches aren’t enough, and a representative sample would have to include people from the north as well as south, Black critics (there have been many) as well as whites and other ethnicities, who are critical of him. This, them would have to be matched with pro-Obasma supporters who see whites or whitness as a factor in his opposition, or who speak of whites in the same denigrating terms. This would tend to show where the greatest bona fide racism actually is. I would predict that there would be some BIG surprises in a study such as this. Hate, after all, is still hate.

  3. Re #4: there is a very big difference between “Obama critics” and anti-Obama racists. This blog, eg, has often criticized Obama’s Afghan war policy. Obama should have brought all US troops out of Afghanistan, Iraq, etc. yesterday (of course: George W. Bush should not have started those wars).

To see that the anti-Obama racism, as seen in the “Obamacare” picture in this thread, and in the links in this blog entry, is indeed vile racism, one really does not need any big, as you write “imperical” (do you mean imperial or empirical?) study.

  4. Seriously people this whole “racist” card has gone too far. Yeah, he’s black, he’s president, he’s gonna get made fun of no matter what. it’s because he is president, not because he is black. and yes, there were pictures, caricatures and cartoons made during the Bush era, but they aren’t racist because he is white. Hmmmmm he didn’t get a Nobel, did he? Why did Obama? he has been president for what now, eleven months? and nothing that great has come out of that eleven months either. so if you want to pull the racist card when a harmless photoshopped picture is released on the internet, go ahead. you’ll get a nobel peace prize soon enough if you’re black. But not us white people, we have to do something monumental like cure cancer before we are even put on the list for a Nobel.

  5. Re #6: probably you have not looked at the image on the top of this thread. No, that is NOT because Obama is president; it is because he is of (partly) African origin. As it reproduces, indeed, racist anti African clichés. Not “harmless” at all.

Bush, it is said, is distantly related to the British royal family. Yet there has never been a loonie “birther” movement claiming that he was really born in England, that he should go back to England, etc.

Bush did start the Iraq war, causing over a million deaths. And war in Afghanistan … Somalia … etc. Obama did not start those wars. He just did far, far too little to stop them in his first 11 months; he kept Bush’s Gates, etc. Well, if you are president of the country weith the biggest military in the world, and NATO ally Norway decides about the prize, you have a comparatively big chance of winning the Nobel prize for peace, even if your credentials are somewhat doubtful: like in the cases of Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, and Henry Kissinger (not one of those three people “cured cancer” by the way either).
